How ranking works

Two numbers decide rank: votes from confirmed accounts, and new ratings on the store. Both are shown on every app page. Nothing is for sale.

Votes

One vote per confirmed account per app per week. You cannot vote for your own app. Each vote starts at 1 point and loses weight when it looks like a coordinated push:

PatternWeight
Account under 72 hours old× 0.5
Two makers voting for each other's apps within 14 days× 0.25 each
Third and later vote on one app within an hour from related accounts (same network, or created within a day of each other)× 0.2

Reduced votes still show in the count. The app page says how many were reduced and why.

Store ratings

Every day we read each listing's public rating count. New ratings add 2 × ln(1 + n) points, capped at 8. The cap keeps big apps with thousands of weekly ratings from filling the board without votes.

Boards

This week counts points since Monday 00:00 UTC and starts over each Monday. Finished weeks are saved, and badges cite them. Rising covers 14 days and halves each point's weight every 48 hours, so a new app can climb mid-week.

Who can post

Only live App Store and Google Play listings, and only the developer who owns the listing. Ownership is a token placed in that app's App Store promotional text or Play short description, which only people with access to that listing can edit. Every app is proved separately. If a listing changes developer, it leaves the board until the new owner verifies.

What is not for sale

Rank, placement, featuring, and review speed. There is no paid tier.

Our own apps

Signalboard is run by Scrolling Is Evil, a small app studio. Our apps enter the same way, rank by the same rules, and carry an “Ours” label.
